EDM, or Electrical Discharge Machining, makes it possible to for MSI to work with electrically conductive metals for which traditional machining techniques, such as milling or grinding, are ineffective.
Our
EDM capabilities make it possible to cut small odd-shaped angles, intricate contours or delicate cavities in pre-hardened steels without the need for heat treatment to soften and re-harden them. EDM is also effective with metal or metal alloys such as titanium, hastelloy, kovar, inconel, and carbide. With EDM, we can make virtually any shape you want, including complex and curved shapes.
The
EDM Process is particularly ideal for parts used in the aerospace and electronics industries. Some of the advantages of EDM include the machining of:
- Complex shapes that would otherwise be difficult to produce with conventional cutting tools
- Extremely hard material to very close tolerances
- Very small work pieces where conventional cutting tools may damage the part from excess cutting tool pressure
And since there is no direct contact between tool and work piece, delicate sections and weak materials can be machined without any distortion.
